We are a small town, family run business. We do this because we love it and we work hard to do it right, and we recognize your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to our success. Our aim is to ensure you have the best coffee experience possible. In the days of corporate-owned coffee shops in nearly every corner, you might be surprised there are still a few places like us left.
We take extreme pride in providing you the best coffee in the cup, freshest beans shipped directly to you and most delectable baked goods for your consumption. We hope to get to know you, now here’s a little bit about us.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BEANS
After 20 plus years of honing her culinary skills cooking for a family of five, Julie had a novel idea–it sure would be nice to get paid for all that hard work! Subsequently, Julie founded Sammi J’s (soon after renamed to StoneHouse Coffee and Roastery) in 2001. Julie has always had a knack for baking and cooking (just ask her family) and it has translated into some delicious products. Most of the baked goods sold in the shop are a direct result of her baking prowess and ingenuity. Before she started StoneHouse Coffee and Roastery, Julie worked as a Registered Nurse. In her spare time she enjoys baking, shopping and playing with her grandchildren.
Mike, (Julie’s Husband) joined StoneHouse Coffee and Roasting in 2002. He’s been the roaster ever since. Mike has always enjoyed coffee and machinery, so roasting coffee combined two of his favorite pastimes. Mike has spent countless hours roasting, reading about roasting and dreaming about it. Mike has always been one to immerse himself into things which he has an interest. His energy and passion for roasting the best coffee possible have really contributed to StoneHouse Coffee and Roastery becoming a premiere Minnesota Vacation destination and online retailer. Prior to joining SHC, Mike also has spent time in the medical field, working as a Nurse Practitioner for several years. In his spare time, Mike enjoys riding his motorcycle, working on his house and playing with his grandchildren.
Nate (Mike and Julie’s son) has been part of the operation since it’s inception. Originally Nate worked as a barista, but most recently, he’s been working with Mike to learn the roasting side of the business. Nate has an attention to detail like no other, which helps to ensure each batch of beans roasted comes out tasting as good as the last. Nate also fills and sends out all of the online orders and has been specially trained in Espresso machine maintenance. In his spare time, Nate loves to play with his daughter Fern. Nate is very mechanically-inclined and when he’s not working at SHC, you’ll find him tinkering in his garage with anything that has a motor. Nate also holds a degree in Music Recording from McNally Smith School of Music in St. Paul. Nate is a multi-instrumentalist and often plays guitar for the local church, The Journey.
